Greenwood Village Lawn Care Services

Maintaining your lawn for an entire season can be a laborious and extensive process.

One of our clients at Mountain High Tree, Lawn & Landscape recently contacted us toward the end of the winter season, concerned that after keeping her lawn in Denver Tech Center, Greenwood Village, healthy and green for months her lawn had deteriorated quickly, erasing all her hard work.

She couldn’t understand why her lawn had suddenly turned into a desert after she seemingly did everything right.

Fortunately, we had some ideas at Mountain High Tree & Lawn, given that we are experts in a variety of areas, including lawn fertilizer, lawn aeration, insect and mite control and lawn disease control.

So you don’t find yourself in the same situation as this particular client, below we have outlined some tips on maintaining a beautiful lawn, as well as how we can specifically help you with our services.

Tips for a Healthy Lawn in Greenwood Village

  1. Always make sure the blades on your mower are in good condition. You should ideally sharpen your blades twice per season.
  2. Make sure to properly care for the bottom of your mower. You should clean it regularly if you want to prevent fungus and disease from sweeping across your lawn.
  3. You should mulch – or leave your lawn bag off your mower while you mow – every third or fourth cut on average.
  4. Grass clippings can be reusable. Toss them into your compost bin.

Greenwood Village Lawn Aeration Service

If your grass seems to be growing slowly, you may want to consider our lawn aeration services.

Lawn aeration not only oxygenizes your lawn, but it also keeps important micro-organisms alive and breaks up mucky clay so more water can reach the roots of each blade of grass.

Greenwood Village Lawn Fertilization

There are many different types of fertilizer and many different ways of spraying your lawn. Which type and method you choose depends on your situation and preferences.

In the case of our client with the decaying lawn in Greenwood Village, we at Mountain High Tree & Lawn found that she could have benefitted from our Extended-Release Lawn Fertilizer. This fertilizer releases gradually over the course of the season, meaning you don’t have to worry about it being used up early in the season. It also keeps grass from growing unnaturally in spurts.

We also have the Conventional fertilizer product, which is specifically designed for Greenwood Village so you know you are getting the best treatment for your particular soils and conditions.

For those who are looking for eco-friendly methods, our “Organic-Nature’s Way” fertilizer is 100 percent organic with a low-carbon footprint. You have the option to use weed control with it or not.

If you do opt for weed control, know that our Spot-Spray method is more environmentally friendly, too. Instead of spraying the entire lawn, we instead spray each individual weed in a concentrated way. This is healthier for surrounding plants and trees.

No matter which fertilizer and method you choose, we will always apply a pre-emergent to first knock out that unattractive crabgrass.

Revive your Lawn in Greenwood Village

Greenwood Village, and much of Colorado for that matter, faces dry conditions.

These dry conditions can be problematic for that all-important soil that nourishes your grass.

Our Revive product was specifically created to deal with this issue. Revive helps break up arid and hard soils, which allows more room for water to seep into roots better. Our Revive product is particularly popular during the summer and – in the case of our recent client – toward the end of a long winter.

Lawn Insect and Mite Control in Greenwood Village

There’s a reason why you say something is “bugging” you when it is annoying you: Bugs are, well, annoying.

We get a lot of bugs in Colorado, particularly in the warmer Southern and Western parts of the state during the winter season. Bugs can cause a lot of problems when it comes to your lawn. One common theme we at Mountain High Tree & Lawn see is our clients watering often but still seeing their lawns deteriorate. There can be many reasons for this, but bugs – we find – represent a major issue.

There are a couple tips to keep bugs away. First, pay close attention to the areas along walls. Bugs love to nestle into these areas. Second, make sure you water even during the winter season. Many of our clients don’t feel it’s necessary to water when it’s raining or snowing in the winter, but it’s still important because it helps ward away pests.

Below are just a few kinds of bugs that love to scamper around Greenwood Village:

  1. Bill Bug (create a type of sawdust material, enjoy traveling along the sidewalk)
  2. Sod Webworm (a small, brown moth – not a worm – that you’ll find fluttering into, around and through blades of grass while you mow)
  3. Chinch Bug
  4. Ataenius Beetle
  5. White Grubs
  6. Japanese Beetle Grubs (particular to Greenwood Village)

Lawn Disease Control in Greenwood Village

Different Types of Fungi:

Necrotic Ring Spot – The Necrotic Ring Spot fungus can cause even the most seasoned gardener to cringe. Necrotic Ring Spot starts out as a small ring of dead grass, but can expand as the days go by. It’s important to treat this as soon as possible (fortunately, we can help at Mountain High Tree & Lawn!).

Aschochyta (ASK-KO-KY-TA) – No, Aschochyta was not that answer on Jeopardy last night. But it is important to know nonetheless. Aschochyta can be a dangerous fungus for your lawn. It is known for killing the tips of grass blades and turning them an ugly brown color. Aschochyta tends to follow your lawn mower tracks. If it has already taken over, curb its damage by mowing this section of your lawn last to prevent spreading.

Leaf Spot – If your lawn is turning into an odd purple and brown color, you may have Leaf Spot. Leaf Spot loves to expand across your lawn. Be careful with this one.

Fairy Ring Fungus – Fairy Ring Fungus may sound harmless and cute, but it’s quite the opposite. This fungus creates a large circle, sometimes complete with mushrooms. Lawn aeration and fertilizer are pivotal means of keeping this fungus from spreading its wings.

Dollar Spot – True to its name, the Dollar Spot fungus is shaped like a silver dollar. It looks somewhat like a dog urination spot, but without the light green circle around it.
