Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy New Years. The recent snowfalls certainly made it a white one. Our varied and sometimes extreme conditions make Colorado an interesting and fun place to live. However, our climate throws our landscape plants unique challenges, which sometimes requires a little help from us.

Each New Year our staff digs deep for new energy and enthusiasm as we prepare for the variety of factors our landscapes will face. 2012 looks to be a busy year once again. We continue to grow, hiring new staff and acquiring equipment to ensure we meet our upcoming goals. Mountain High aims to uphold the highest possible quality and service to address your needs and concerns, helping you to maintain, improve and most importantly, enjoy your landscape.

All of us at Mountain High look forward to working with you in the New Year, and as always thank you for your business.

Tree Care

The heavy snow in October and November wreaked havoc on the trees all across the Denver Metro Area. The damage ranged from a few broken branches to complete tree failures. Houses, cars, and landscapes were affected and many lives disrupted during the cleanup process.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for your patience while our crews worked to take care of your needs. When Mother Nature shows her uncontrollable strength, we are here to help with cleanup; however, during these times, we wish we could be in ten places at once! Your patience allowed us to prioritize the damage and focus on safety issues where the damage posed a risk to people and property. After the dangerous damage areas were taken care of – our attention now moves to the more cosmetic issues of restoring the shape and appearance of the damaged trees.

Unfortunately, scheduling this clean up does take time. Because of your patience, we can work through all the damage in an efficient and safe manner. Tree work is inherently dangerous work. Storm damage cleanup carries with it an entirely new list of dangers to our crews so our intention is on their safety and of course, yours.

The winter is far from over, but together we will move into spring just as we have done for over 35 years. As always, Mountain High Tree, Lawn & Landscape is nothing without the patience and loyalty of you, our clients. Thank you for your continued support.

Care   Spring Overseeding

Spring Overseeding

Overseeding an established lawn is a task that is often overlooked. The value goes far beyond the improvement in the aesthetic quality of the turf. The process of adding new seed each season to turf areas incorporates new varieties of grass that are more disease resistant and drought tolerant. By keeping the turf density thick and lush helps to naturally prevent weed infestations. Even the vigor of the lawn can be improved by adding younger age classes of turf.

Overseeding is most effective when done in the spring, but care should be taken not to use herbicides that will disrupt germination. The key to any overseeding program is proper watering. Irrigation systems must be tailored to supply adequate moisture and keep the newly germinating grasses from drying out at any time.

Al Wegner
Celebrating 30 years in 2012

We are pleased to recognize Al Wegner, the manager of our Colorado Springs branch. Al will celebrate 30 years with us this year. He joined our Denver office in 1982 then moved to Colorado Springs in 1996 and has been running this branch with his wife, Becky and a team of people. Al is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, and a graduate of the Urban Forestry program at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

He and Becky have two children, Sydney and Spencer. Al enjoys the beautiful Colorado outdoors. He skies, runs marathons and has even hiked all of the 14 Colorado peaks! We are lucky to have Al as a loyal and dedicated manager. He has helped us grow this branch and his team continues to provide the quality work that MHT is known for.

from Craig Little
Craig LittleTip of the Month:
Despite the recent snow many of our plants are susceptible to damage by desiccation. Evergreen shrubs such as Boxwoods are highly prone to winter damage. Just a few sunny and dry days are enough to damage some plants beyond the point of recovery. It is important to know the plants you have in your landscape and what needs they may have regardless of the season.
